My goal in creating The Revolutionary Story Tour was to give visitors to Boston the one-of-a-kind cultural adventure I always yearned for when I was visiting and exploring a new city for the first time myself. I spent several years in my thirties backpacking and budget traveling and found that most tours were designed to maximize profits and volume for the tour business. I wanted to design a complete tour that put the visitors first.
I also happened to be a twenty-year resident of the North End with degrees in Political Science, History, Philosophy & Public Policy and could see every day how most tours were satisfied providing very generic highlights of the city and very cliche overviews of the history …just enough so people could “check it off their list.” But Boston is so unique, and the American Revolution was so important and so much more than is commonly understood. Why not learn what the most brilliant studies and scholars of the American Revolution have to say about it while you’re here? Why not combine that with a comprehensive exploration of Boston that didn’t limit itself to just the tourist traps?
Of the millions of people who visit Boston every year, maybe there were a handful that would be interested in something like that?
It turns out there was more than a handful. I was going to need help. But how to increase the capacity without decreasing the quality?
Entering his second year as a tour guide Tyler is awesome. A seasoned classroom professional he has all the credentials: a Masters in American History from Pace University and years working as a curriculum coordinator for the Innovative Charter School in Massachusetts. More importantly, however, he has an exuberant personality and a personal understanding of and enthusiasm for breaking out of the confines of how history is usually taught and learned. Recently proposing to his fiancée in the North End the wedding is planned for July, 2023.
A "360-degree" historian, Rob holds a doctorate in History form Vanderbilt University and is a professor at Dean College in Franklin, MA, as well as a filmmaker, an editor, and an award-winning author. More than anything, however, Rob loves to take the learning outside the classroom. He is a world-traveler, has led tours in multiple European cities, loves to meet new people, and is passionate about sharing Boston's amazing story.
